Each term pupil's take part in different sports during PE lessons, including netball, football, volleyball, lacrosse, gymnastics, swimming and dance. Older children can also take part in external events with other schools, for example Tag Rugby, Orienteering, Football competitions and Netball High 5.
Children wear their PE kit on the day that they have PE.
Days for PE each year are promulgated in the first edition of Pitton News.
Juniors, especially the Upper Juniors, are offered the chance to take part in a number of external sports events over the year. Events we hope to take part in this academic year include: orienteering, netball league, Mini Marathon, Small Schools Tournament, High 5 netball, Bikeability, lacrosse, Quad Kids (athletics), football tournaments and a swimming gala.
All children at Pitton School swim every year at Five Rivers Health & Wellbeing Centre. In terms 1,3 & 5 Sarum and Robins swim. In terms 2,4 & 6 Clarendon & Owls swim.
Swimming is part of the PE curriculum and it is expected that all pupils will attend swimming lessons. If a pupil is unable to swim then they will be expected to sit poolside and watch the lessons.
The national curriculum requirement is for pupils to finish primary school:
By the end of June 2019, all but one of our Year 6 pupils achieved this goal.
Distance Swimming Badges
Pupils are tested for distance swimming badges towards the end of either Term 5 (Sarum and Robins) or Term 6 (Owls and Clarendon), with an additional session for Year 6 pupils who wish to achieve 1000m+. If your child takes external swimming lessons and completes a distance swim award outside school, we would like to see the certificate to update our records. External certificates can be handed out by the Head Teacher during Golden Assembly on a Friday.
We are really exciting to say that we have been awarded the Bronze Award from the School Games 2017/18 - well done to all of our pupils!
