Remote education provision: information for parents
For details of what to expect where individual pupils are self-isolating, please see the final section of this page.
The remote curriculum: what is taught to pupils at home
What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?
The immediate remote education in the first 2 days of being sent home will consist of Maths, English and one other subject. These will be revision of prior learning. Pupils can then complete set activities and submit, when completed, to their online portfolio. Teachers will monitor these at the end of the school day. If a ‘bubble’ is sent home, and school has had prior knowledge that this is the case, teachers will send work packs and/or personalised activity packs home with children. This would be supplemented with online activities on Class Dojo daily. |
Following the first few days of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we have needed to make some adaptations in some subjects. For example, where artefacts and reference books are needed we may upload photos or links as school understands these resources will not be available at home. Each day pupils will be provided with English, maths and one other subject. This will be in line with the recommended 3 hours of learning.

Remote teaching and study time each day
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

Number of hours |
Wrens (Reception, Year 1, Year 2) |
3 hours Phonics Maths English Reading One other subject Daily Physical Activity |
Hawks (Year 3, Year 4) |
4 hours Maths English Reading Spelling, Punctuation, Grammar One other subject Daily Physical Activity |
Kites (Year 5, Year 6) |
4 hours Maths English Reading Spelling, Punctuation, Grammar One other subject Daily Physical Activity |
Accessing remote education
How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?
Online provision will be provided on Class Dojo. Each pupil has their own login and can access activities, upload work, view video links, contact staff. We also use Zoom to register and start the day when a whole cohort is isolating or during a partial/whole school lockdown.

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:
|
How will my child be taught remotely?
We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:
|
Engagement and feedback
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
Pupils are expected to engage with online learning in a way that best fits their home life. We understand that parents may wish to alter the timetable to suit their particular needs. Pupils will be given a daily opportunity to meet with their class teacher and ask any questions or gain guidance on how to complete a given task. Parents are asked to ensure that pupils have access to resources readily available at home, have a quiet and clear space to work and are supported where possible with tasks. We would also request a good routine to activities, that best fits with their home life, and to be monitored and supervised appropriately. |
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
Pupil engagement with work will be monitored at daily registration, submitted pieces in their portfolio and through questioning during the Live session with their teacher daily. If a parent has a concern regarding engagement with activities we would ask they contact the school where we would be happy to support and encourage your child. If a class teacher is concerned regarding a pupils engagement they will contact a parent to ensure the providing is appropriate for that child. Activities can also be adapted to best fit the pupil’s needs.
|
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:
Feedback will be given remotely using the comments section on the portfolio as well as during the Live sessions daily. Pupils work will be assessed by looking at pieces submitted, quiz scores from online learning activities, the monitoring of pupil response both written and orally during live daily sessions. |
Additional support for pupils with particular needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:
Where possible, and with appropriate adaptation we will continue to run interventions in school for pupils of key workers and live using zoom for those pupils working at home. Pupils with Sen will also have personalised activities in their portfolio by the SENCo and/or Intervention TA. The SENCo and/or Intervention TA will correspond with parents using the messaging system on the Online Learning Platform Class Dojo or by phone.

Remote education for self-isolating pupils
Where individual pupils need to self-isolate but the majority of their peer group remains in school, how remote education is provided will likely differ from the approach for whole groups. This is due to the challenges of teaching pupils both at home and in school.
If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?
Once school has been notified that your child is isolating we will endeavour to ensure that English and maths work is uploaded to the online learning platform (Class Dojo) this will be in line with the days teaching in school. Pupils isolating can then complete set activities and submit, when completed, to their online portfolio. Teachers will monitor these at the end of the school day. If a ‘bubble’ is sent home teachers will send, if possible, work packs and/or personalised activity packs home with children. This would be supplemented with online activities on Class Dojo daily. |
Emergency Conditions
Conditions sometimes arise which affect the normal running of the school, e.g. extremely adverse weather. A decision therefore has to be made as to what action to take. The first consideration will always be the safety of children and staff with the main objective being to keep the school open as long as possible.
A decision to close the school would be made by the Headteacher after a consultation with the Chair of Governors. Spire FM would be advised of the schools closure as early as possible. We would also advise parents on the school website and using our pyramid phone system, if we had to close due to unforeseen circumstances.
Please ensure your home and/or mobile telephone number is kept up to date on our school records.
Emergency Closure Procedures – Covid19
In the event of a local outbreak, the PHE health protection team or local authority may advise the school to close temporarily to help control transmission. Should this be the case school will provide Remote Education support using the whole school learning platform Class Dojo.
Parents will be notified of school closure, either whole or partial, following the usual Emergency Conditions procedures.
