Wrens 2024 - 2025
Welcome to Term 3!
A brilliant start back to term 3 with the continuation of the enquiry How does my school change? This time with a focus on Winter. The children are exploring the world around them as scientists and noticing changes since our autumn dive into this Enquiry. As artists the children have been using watercolour to develop colour mixing and control along with painting skills.
The second enquiry this term we will be Geographers and explore our school and mapping as well as comparing what we notice about our school to a school in a non European country.
As it has become a little tradition, I select a few books each year for last-minute gift ideas for infant children to help with those last few gifts for younger friends and family. Please look at the bottom of the page for suggestions from previous years!
Term 2 starts with an RE day focusing on the celebration of Diwali. Classes join together for different aspects of the day to learn about the celebration and share in the enjoyment of Religious Education learning.
This term, we will start by being scientists and artists in our first exploration of the enquiry question: How does our school change? We will revisit this question throughout the year!
We will follow this with the question, "What is my hat made of?" as engineers and scientists.
Towards the end of term, we will be preparing for our Wrens nativity, and we look forward to performing it for all the Wrens Families.
Term 1 - The importance of early childhood education:
Information on child development for our new reception parents
This term, we welcome our new Reception children to Wrens, and our Year 1s take on the responsibility of being the class's role models! It's an exciting start to the year, with lots of fun to be had across the curriculum, including visiting lost islands as Authors and Thinking about how we learn as Philosophers. In Curious City, we will explore the question of enquiry: What do artists do? Later in the term, we will lead the Harvest Festival in the church!
Wrens in Action!
In keeping with our curious curriculum, Wrens in Action is divided into our States of Being.
Under each State of Being, you will find examples of learning from adult-led sessions as well as both continuous and enhanced provision from year R, Year 1 and Year 2.
Additionally, there is a section with a focus on outdoor learning.

To help support phonics at home, we have an optional home learning sheet for each week of the terms phonics learning. Please resist jumping ahead! The best time to use the sheets may be at the weekend after each week has passed as a revision of what has been taught in lessons over the week.
These are posted on Class Dojo for each year group - Appropriately linked to consolidate class learning and to consolidate Phonics for year 2
Online Learning Platform
www.classdojo.com or Download the ClassDojo App
There are Four main features of the platform: Class Story – This will contain helpful learning links to online activities along with activities pupils may wish to complete at home. There is no requirement for these activities to be submitted. Staff will update the class story regularly. Each year group in Wrens has their own Class Story.
School Story- The school story sends out information across the whole school and is shown on your feed. our newsletter, Pitton News, as well as our useful information, is sent through this and is sent to all families in the school. Portfolio – This is a section where activities requiring ‘submission’ will be placed. Pupils will complete the activities and submit them online, where their class teacher will be able to access them, comment and/or award Dojo points. Staff will update portfolio activities regularly. The portfolio is only used during Remote learning in Wrens.
Messenger - This is a useful message service built into Class Dojo. Mrs Davis and Miss Pearce check this regularly and will send out Targets, IEPs as well as send messages when needed. This is a great way to let the class teachers know if your child has been feeling unwell or not slept well (for example) if you are unable to pass this information across in the morning.
Here are a few example topic Maps from last academic year.
Please ask Miss Pearce for any specific term guides - Wren's class page needed a de-clutter!
