The PE lessons throughout the year follow the national curriculum.  Each term, pupils take part in 2 different sports, one of which is provided by Astrella Sport coaches.  Sports include: 

  • Netball
  • Football
  • Gymnastics
  • Dance
  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Tennis
  • Rounders

Children wear their PE kit on the day that they have PE.

Days for PE each year are promulgated in the first edition of Pitton News.

 

Sports Events

Juniors, especially the Upper Juniors, are offered the chance to take part in a number of external sports events over the year. Examples from the past year include:

- Dodgeball 

- Athlete visit and circuits training

- Football 

- Quidditch 

- Badminton

- Kurling

- Sponsored walks

 

 

Swimming

Year 5 and 6 participate in swimming lessons during the summer term.

 

Swimming is part of the PE curriculum and it is expected that all pupils will attend swimming lessons.  If a pupil is unable to swim then they will be expected to sit poolside and watch the lessons.

 

The national curriculum requirement is for pupils to finish primary school:

  • being able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
