  • Music Award for Pitton Teacher, Mr Russell

    Wed 12 Jul 2023

Pitton CE Primary School teacher wins Wiltshire Music Education Award.

On Wednesday 12th July Mr Russell, class teacher and music lead, and Mrs Wilkinson, Headteacher at Pitton CE Primary School, attended the Wiltshire Music Education Awards 2023 where Mr Russell was awarded Wiltshire Digital Music Education Pioneer 2023.

Mr Russell has worked with children in school to create, write and record backing tracks and lyrics for their own songs uploading their songs to online platforms like Spotify. He has been instrumental in creating a recording studio in school where recordings of these songs and podcasts can be created. Mr Russell has also led an after school GarageBand club and worked with external providers to ensure resources in school meet the need and interests of pupils. Earlier this academic year Mr Russell and Mrs Guymer also worked with the whole school in successfully entering and winning the Song for Christmas competition run by Love Salisbury Radio.

All staff, pupils and parents are incredibly proud of the success and recognition shown by this award and Mr Russell’s unwavering dedication towards the arts curriculum. Mr Russell and all pupils in Key Stage Two are currently rehearsing for their end of year performance where Mr Russell has once again ensured that digital music plays an integral part.
